In January 2023 I decided to take on a new project by building a new studio in my back garden. The focus of the design was to create a Corten steel frame with black timber cladding to the recessed area. The internal walls are lined in a cheap 12mm plywood with a white stain Osmo Oil used to lighten the colour and provide protection. The interior demonstrates how using one of the cheapest building materials can create a warm and inviting space. The build was designed with a low carbon footprint using materials that can all be 100% recycled. With large amounts of insulation and a low energy underfloor heating system (made from recycled tyres) the running costs for heating are as low as 5-10p / day. It has turned out to be a great space to work and meet with clients.
